Jen Atkinson
Magda Rut-Martinson
Owner and lead designer, Jen Atkinson, draws design inspiration from her years of traveling around the world. She’s lived in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and America. From an early age, much to her parents’ frustration, Jen would constantly rearrange the furniture in her bedroom to give it a “fresh look” and as a teenager she would redecorate her family’s home on an almost-monthly basis. Years later, she would find herself redecorating the homes of friends and dabbling in custom furniture making. After a successful 16-year career as an international TV news journalist, Jen decided to turn her decorating passion into a full time job, and Clear Concept Design was born.
Jen’s decorating ethos is that things are only truly beautiful if they are also functional. She also believes that beautiful does not necessarily mean expensive.
Jen is an accredited yoga teacher and enjoys running, playing the piano and singing jazz. In 2017 she founded the non-profit organization Making Mats Matter which turns old yoga mats into sleeping mats for homeless communities across the NYC/NJ region. Jen is fluent in English, Italian and Afrikaans and can make small talk about animals and the weather in French, Hebrew and Arabic.
She and her husband reside in Hoboken, New Jersey, where they are raising their three children.
Jen met senior designer, Magda Rut-Martinson, in 2021, and brought her on to join Clear Concept Design. Within a few days of working together Jen knew that she had found a stellar work partner and that she had made a new life-long friend.
Magda brings rich creativity and bold design to every project. She is meticulous and applies precision and a high level of detail-oriented attention to everything she does.
Magda was born in Poland where she grew up inspired by her mother who is a successful architedt and interior designer. As if her creative talents weren’t enough, Magda studied veterinary medicine and thrived as a veterinary doctor in Poland before moving to the United States, with a 2-year stint in London, in between.
In her spare time, Magda throws all her creative energy into restoring her family’s beautiful Hoboken brownstone home, maintaining its original features and bringing its character and charm back to life. She is a master at up-cycling furniture and reimagining decorative items and her creative brain never stops working.
Magda is married with two children and is active in her town’s community and can often be seen at public education foundation events or volunteering her time to help care for stray or sick animals.
In her fifth year at the company, Magda has become a truly integral and indispensable part of Clear Concept Design.
